Suppliers of health foods in China must have licenses

and have their products tested by the Chinese
National Foods Hygiene Inspection Institute. The
Ministry has defined health foods as "products
that affect the functions of human organs but are
not targeted at special ailments." Unlicensed
health foods will be banned if they are not
registered and tested by March, 1997. This system
is intended to upgrade quality and standardize
manufacturing of health foods.
