OTC sales of dietary supplements increase in China.

Since 1992, the market for non-traditional western remedies in China has grown from $70.1 million to $79.2 million, according to Euromonitor, a market consultant firm. Despite a long-established OTC health care product manufacturing base in the Guandong province, high demand for western dietary supplements has been fueled by increasing income levels and an aging population. The most valuable sectors of the market currently include skin care products, cough remedies, and children's remedies. Euromonitor predicts that the Chinese market will increase 111% between 1998 and 2002, reaching approximately $207.7 billion.
