Johnson & Johnson launches new glucosamine supplement

Hoping to capitalize on the strong market for glucosamine products, the company has introduced McNeil Consumer Healthcare's Alfexa product in Florida. A nationwide launch is expected in the next few months. The product is available in food, drug, and mass outlets, positioned next to J&J's Tylenol line of analgesics on store shelves. Display panels read "From the Makers of Tylenol," but the glucosamine product does not contain Tylenol. McNeil entered the nutraceutical market last May with its introduction of the Benecol line of cholesterol-reducing foods and supplements, followed by the Healthy Woman line of supplements in June.
