Industry groups petition FDA to adopt ephedra guidelines

On October 25, a coalition of industry trade associations submitted a citizen petition urging FDA to adopt the industry's four-year-old voluntary guidelines for labeling and marketing of ephedra-containing products. The petition also includes a request for FDA clearance of continued sales of ephedra/caffeine combination products. The industry's proposed labeling guidelines include warnings for specific consumer groups as well as serving and daily consumption limits. The four groups that submitted the petition are the American Herbal Products Association, the National Nutritional Foods Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, and the Utah Natural Products Alliance.
